New Orleans Cultural Restoration Project

The New Sun Rising, a non- profit organization located in Pittsburgh, PA has established the New Orleans Cultural Restoration Project in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Culture, especially music, inhabits the soul of New Orleans. The city has provided the most fertile ground for music since the birth of jazz, and it’s unique heritage remains in the heart of anyone who has experienced its charm. As the community begins its long recovery, we identify that music will be not only a large part of the economic recovery, but in the recovery and nourishment of the soul as well.

Earth Day 2007

April 22nd, 2007- The New Sun Rising organized ‘Spring Clean the Verve’. Seven members of our organization participated in an Earth Day cleanup of on/off ramps just east of Pittsburgh, resulting in two pickup truck loads consisting of 30+ bags full of trash and countless smaller recycling bags. There was an immediate impact felt by this direct action, and the improvement was visible at the two East End highway ramps that we worked on; Edgewood/Swissvale and Forest Hills.
