Established in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, and local flooding resulting from Hurricane Ivan; New Sun Rising supports grass roots projects in the Pittsburgh region through fiscal sponsorship. We seek to help ideas become reality: by 'connecting the dots' of support for our projects, providing 501c3 status, allowing access to a subscription grant database, issuing discounted and free software through Tech Soup, awarding an annual $500 First Ray grant, and the logistical support of our existing network of community partners and volunteers. New Sun Rising’s vision is to become the grass-roots option for creative solutions in the community by providing fiscal sponsorship to adopted projects. Through identifying and promoting ideas aligned with our values, we emphasize: ease of process, efficient use of resources, and effectiveness of support.

Mission: New Sun Rising exists as a non-profit organization that launches projects to positively impact cultural, environmental, and social wellness. Our organization creates measurable change through projects primarily affecting the region of Western PA through direct action, education, social service, goods, and training.

Heinz Small Arts Initiative awarded to Evenings in Quarantine: The Zombie Opera

We are proud and honored to announce that The Zombie Opera has been awarded a Small Arts Initiative grant from the Heinz Endowments! The Heinz Endowments supports efforts to make southwestern Pennsylvania a premier place to live and work, a center for learning and educational excellence, and a region that embraces diversity and inclusion. Congratulations to everyone working to make this ground breaking project a success, we can't wait to see everything come together this Fall.

The Horizon Experience 2010 kicks off the Summer with day at the Zoo

Thanks to our adult volunteers, Tickets for Kids, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, and our awesome children who participated in the first event of our 2010 Horizon Experience. We had a blast, and are looking forward to getting together for our next outing. Details to be announced soon!
