Library

Great idea, looking forward to it very much!

about the library...

Hello,
I am a photographer with Channel 11 news. I was curious to hear how these meetings have been turning out. I live in Reserve Township and I would love to see a library in Millvale...It is just at the bottom of the hill from where I live.
Would this be something we (as a news station) should be looking at covering? Is it just in the beginning stages?
I just read 2 brief articles on it...Let me know...
Thank you,
Georgiann Roman

re: about the library...

Hi there Georgiann,

Thanks so much for getting in touch and for your support about bringing a library to Millvale!  We are certainly in the early stages of the development. The library is something being built from the ground up by Millvale residents, and regional supporters and we are learning as we are going.  Fortunately, the articles in the city paper, post gazette and popcitymedia.com have helped to bring volunteers into the fold who are also experienced with libraries.
We are scheduling monthly meetings, with the next one being on December 5th.  The first meeting had 12 people in attendance, and the last one had 22.  Support is growing and spreading while we have started planning heavy fundraising and plan to have purchased the building by the end of 2008.
As far as Channel 11 news goes, we would welcome all coverage of course!  One great possibility will be in February, as Mr.Small's Theater has agreed to donate the use of the space for a night, and student volunteers from the University of Pittsburgh's Beta Alpha Psi will be putting on a fundraising show with all proceeds going to the Library!  We are working to make this a huge event, and coverage by Channel 11 would be wonderful.  As someone who is still dealing with issues related to the August flooding, I would love to see our town get some coverage for something positive for a change!
Thanks again for getting in touch, and you can reach both Tricia George and myself at millvalelibrary@hotmail.com which we have set up for the purpose of this project.
Take care,
Brian Wolovich

reply: about the library

Thank you for your interest. Brian Wolovich and Tricia George are heading up the Millvale Library Project, and I will make sure that they get in touch with you. Exposure is definately something that we have been working on, and everything has been very positive so far with great community support. A long list of tasks that we came to the meeting on 11/14 with were all taken by volunteers outside of our initial New Sun Rising group; which shows a nice deal of initiative for those involved.  Things are looking up!!

Have a nice day and spread the word, we are looking for new members to our grass roots organization.
Sincerely-
Scott
