Through the building of strategic partnerships, and a groundswell of grassroots support, the New Sun Rising is spearheading an effort to acquire a dilapidated building in Millvale's main business district, and turn it into a hub of educational and community activity. The library and coffee shop will boost your mind, and your energy! Not only that, but we are also working closely with the Borough of Millvale, and the Millvale Business Development Corporation (www.millvalepa.com) to turn a forgotten plot of land on Grant Avenue into a green space where residents and patrons can relax, and mingle. Wanna know more?

Public Educational Facility

Children, teens, and adults have a world of information at their fingertips through books, internet, and in-person programs. Library patrons are connected to the eiNetwork, a digital link to other public libraries, for interlibrary loans and access to databases. Our collaboration with Shaler Area School District provides after-school and summer tutoring programs and extensions on community-lead workshops.

Regional Appeal

As our reputation grows, so does our clientele. Groups and organizations are brought in from all over Pittsburgh to utilize our state-of-the-art facilities for meetings, discussion groups, performances, and as a model for others interested in green building.

Community Involvement

Millvale residents and its neighbors are exposed regularly to local occurrences such as neighborhood clean-ups, volunteer opportunities, resident-lead classes, borough dealings, and school district events. Cross-generational activities allow people of all ages to interact.

Green Building Model As a Green Building

Millvale Library not only sets a paradigm for urban rehabilitation, but also improves the environmental stability of the village. Flood-prevention, cleaner air, locally grown produce, and beautification are but a few of the multitude of advantages provided by sustainable architecture.

Strategic Finances

The inclusion of a non-profit coffee shop and rental spaces in the library building provide a significant source of revenue, all of which is used to offset operating expenses for this public institution. Check out regular updates at www.millvalelibrary.org
