The New Sun Rising, a non- profit organization located in Pittsburgh, PA has established the New Orleans Cultural Restoration Project in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Culture, especially music, inhabits the soul of New Orleans. The city has provided the most fertile ground for music since the birth of jazz, and it’s unique heritage remains in the heart of anyone who has experienced its charm. As the community begins its long recovery, we identify that music will be not only a large part of the economic recovery, but in the recovery and nourishment of the soul as well.
Preservation Hall - The Deep Roots of Jazz The New Orleans Cultural Restoration Project is committed to raising funds for the Tipitina’s Foundation (www.tipitinas.com), which directly supports musicians in New Orleans affected by flooding through medical care, housing, and assistance with professional development. When supporting this project, you are directly supporting the soul and recovery of New Orleans. Recognizing the continued local problems related to flood related damages, The New Sun Rising will donate 20% of proceeds to The North Hills Community Outreach Center in Millvale (www.nhco.org). Currently under construction, the Center directly assists residents in Millvale affected by flooding.
