SUMMARY:Teaching Artist Award Grant Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Transformative Teaching Artist Awards\n\n\nIntroduction \nThe New Sun Rising with support from The Heinz Endowments is pleased to announce this Request for Proposals as part of the Transformative Arts Process (TAP)\, a Heinz Endowments’ grants program focused on fostering the careers of teaching artists and bringing transformative arts experiences to youth.  TAP’s specific goal is to move towards a more Just Pittsburgh by invigorating the field of teaching artists and arts organizations that have a demonstrated practice of challenging structural inequities\, bringing transformative arts centered experience to youth in and from African American/ distressed communities.  \nTransformative Teaching Artist Award Program Description \nThe Transformative Teaching Artist Awards recognize that quality teaching artists should be recognized for the important work they do in Pittsburgh’s African American and “distressed” communities. Teaching artists play critical roles in the lives of the youth they serve\, providing not only artistic skill building\, but caring\, support and mentorship.  Yet those teaching artists who have chosen this as their life’s work face great challenges in building teaching artist careers. Most of our teaching artists are underpaid and under recognized; the delivery system for teaching artist instruction is fragmented; and arts instruction is often not assigned a high priority in public or out of school time programs. \nThe Transformative Teaching Artist Awards have been created to add another validation\, strengthened networking and increased visibility for the artists who choose to do this work amazingly well.  It is our hope that these recognition awards can play a part in acknowledging teaching artistry designed to play a transformative role in the lives of youth living in African American\, Black\, and “distressed” neighborhoods\, as an important and recognized profession.  The Transformative Teaching Artist Awards program will provide ten teaching artists in the field with a cash award of $5\,000. The awards are recognition awards which may be used in any way the recipient deems fit. \nProgram Goals \n\nRecipients have an increased sense of being appreciated and confidence in their work as a teaching artist.\nRecipients will join the TAP network and build relationships with colleagues they did not know and strengthen their own practice in the process.\nLocal media will feature the work of recipients and highlight the importance of teaching art & culture in African American and “distressed” neighborhoods.\n\n\nDeadline August 19th at 11:59pm \nMore information below \nTransformative Teaching Artist Awards

SUMMARY:GROW Learning Workshop Series-Why Inclusion is Good for Business
DESCRIPTION:Why Inclusion is Good for Business Facilitated by anu jain\, Principle Consultant of Inclusant and Executive Director\, Gender Equity Commision\, Office of the Mayor William Peduto Why Inclusion is Good for Business Many organizations struggle to achieve the diverse and inclusive environment that they desire\, given historical exclusion and inequities in U.S. society. Other obstacles include misconceptions about what inclusion really is and what it costs. As with any other successful initiatives\, inclusion efforts have to be high quality\, well strategized\, and sustained over time\, which may well require a high investment in terms of time and resources. And there are high returns on such investment: inclusion is not only the right thing to do\, but it is also profitable when done with intentionality and suitable information. Learn about many reasons why inclusion is good for the bottom line\, which means ignoring it will cost too much for any business\, organization\, community— and all of us\, in the long term. IWorkshop discussions will include: Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Cultural Competency Tools for Assesment and Growth Inclusant provides businesses and organzations with the tools and training necessary to expand diversity and promote equity and inclusion. Programs and initiaives provide leaders with the awareness\, knowledge\, and skills crucial for succesfully enagaging diverse constituents and scaling impact. Inclusant has experience across all sectors developing a deep understanding of diversity and inclusion challenges that represent important social issues. Inclusant develops strategies and solutions promoting inclusion by staying current with best practices and new research in diversity studies. \n  \nLunch will be provided. \nThe Grow Learning Workshop Series is sponsored in part by the PNC Charitable Trust Review Committee and JB Finley Charitable Trust \n**Series times and locations will vary

DESCRIPTION:For all the good they can do\, many businesses\, agencies\, and community organizations can also be less than inclusive in their decision making. Increasingly\, businesses and community organizations see being more inclusive as a way to create more value in what they do. It’s of course about doing the right thing but also about “firing on all cylinders” and having a diverse set of skills and perspectives in the house. \nYou should walk out of this event with new acquaintances and colleagues and allies in our quest to make Pittsburgh’s business and community development scene more inclusive\, efficient\, and vibrant. \nJoin members of the Pittsburgh Chamber of Cooperatives to hear their stories of how they make their decision making more inclusive and productive. \nThis\, like all Inclusive Innovation Week events\, is free.
