Writing always begins with a rough draft. In this case the word “RUFF” also represents “Reflections Using Facts and Fiction.” This project has an underlying message to “go off leash” from technology to connect across generations to read and reflect and then write “RUFF” drafts to savor and share family and individual stories. People of all ages will be able to connect at home, school, afterschool programs or personal care homes, sharing with loved ones or doing service learning projects. The “RUFF-lections” art and writing kit (TBR summer 2018) can be used to create treasured keepsakes of these “RUFF” drafts. Free activity PDFs will be available on the website.
Financial support will provide stipends for the author, editor, graphic designer, illustrator and webmaster to provide 1) free website learning activity resources; 2) Reduced-cost copies of art and writing materials to school or afterschool programs in at-risk communities; 3) Writing and art workshops for kindergarten – grade 12 teachers, with eligibility for Act 48 credit through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The first 20 sponsors who give a helping hand in the amount of $1,000 each will be thanked through a link on the “Help” page of the revised web site of www.theruffwriters.com.
