Pittsburgh Climate Change Crankie tells the story of Pittsburgh’s environmental evolution through the history of one small house — via an archaic Appalachian entertainment device. Created by independent project manager Katy DeMent,, aka The Paper Lady, the crankie is a manually powered paper panoramic illustration that tells a story as it scrolls. The Climate Change Crankie is a bridge to conversations about Pittsburgh’s industrial history, its environmental legacy & man’s role in its brighter future. Live performances, hands-on activities & audience cooperation are on the Crankie agenda. Recipient of The Sprout Fund’s annual Seed Award program.
