Steel City Shakespeare Center
The mission of Steel City Shakespeare Center is to use the works of classical theater to engage and inspire the communities of the Pittsburgh region and beyond. They do this through interactive performances and other programming to introduce and re-introduce individuals from all walks of life to the transformative power of Shakespeare’s works. The effect of such an experience lasts well beyond the duration of the performance. It is their vision that individuals from diverse backgrounds will share a common creative experience and develop a greater sense of empathy in their everyday lives.
Using few props and costumes, and actors who play several roles in each show means Steel City Shakespeare Center can go practically anywhere. They don’t need a large stage, lighting, or sound systems, so they can perform in parks, backyards, community meeting rooms, and other spaces otherwise too small to host a performance.
In early June 2016, Steel City Shakespeare Center will be performing Shakespeare’s greatest comedy, Much Ado About Nothing (cast photo above), at various locations including Troy Hill Citizens Park (6/3 and 6/4 @6PM, 6/5 @ 1PM), Millvale Community Library (6/4 and 6/11 @ 1PM), Heathside Cottage in Fineview (6/10 and 6/11 @ 6PM), and Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse (6/16 @ 6PM).
